Exploring the Power of Words: My Character

Author Jacqueline Jones-Henry

Identify the kind of person you want to be in today's society as you design your book.

Exploring the Power of Words: My Character is a quick, effective tool for parents, carers and teachers. The characters in the book introduce children to words that can help them learn to be the best they can be whilst having fun. This book allows parents and carers to have quick, meaningful conversations about a word that can help their children produce positive emotions for the rest of their lives as they learn to deal with adversities head-on. Having learnt a word, children can practise understanding the meaning of the word on their own as they create drawings around it.

The interactive colouring book explores the power of words, focusing on the theme "My Character" for its first edition. The goal is to empower young readers to understand how positive words can shape positive thoughts and to believe in the truth and accuracy of words, instead of rumours.

The explorers Abbie, Zack, Zara, and Arun, characters in the book, take children on a journey to remind them that their lives are precious and should not be wasted. Jacqueline believes that if we don’t understand the meaning of a positive word, it can't help shape who we are. The book focuses on self-respect, respect, uniqueness, kindness and more. Jacqueline also introduces words associated with disrespect so that children are aware of the outcome when they choose to let these words shape who they are. Jacqueline, who has experience juggling life as a busy parent, recognises that parents may not always be present to protect children from bullying. Therefore, by using these words associated with disrespect in her book, she hopes that children can openly discuss the consequences of being jealous, disrespectful, and rude.

Having learnt how to be the best they can be, the characters encourage all children to learn British Sign Language and Braille to acquire basic communication skills for interacting with those who are different. Jacqueline is aware being excluded from friendly gatherings, isolation can lead to depression.

Encourage young ones to draw their dream journeys around the characters in the book Exploring the Power of Words: My Character. “Motivate your children to pursue those dreams as they also learn to be kind and respectful while constructing a path towards accomplishing them.Having good character is the foundation on which we build a successful life.

Much time has gone into factual research to ensure this book is good for your child’s well-being. Check out our blog The Engaging Facts Behind the Book.

A Braille version of the book is being developed owing to the author’s mission for all children to enjoy the experience of celebrating life and their uniqueness.
